Look for a genuine local phone number and a business that actually operates in Toronto or your part of the GTA — not just a toll-free number routed to an out-of-town dispatcher. Local locksmiths arrive faster, know the area, and have a reputation to protect.

4. Real reviews

Check Google and other review platforms. You are looking for a solid body of consistent, recent reviews — not a brand-new listing with a handful of five-star ratings and no detail. Pay attention to how a company responds to the occasional negative review; professionalism there tells you a lot.

5. They ask the right questions

A good locksmith asks what kind of door and lock you have, whether anyone is inside, and where you are, so they arrive prepared. And when they show up, they should be able to explain the job, the options, and the price in plain language before doing the work.
